I know I haven’t posted in a while, but I’m hoping that now my home life is a little more calm, with my kids going back to school, I can get back into the swing of things and start posting more regularly. I also would like to announce that I am now part of the Etchall Design Team. I love Etchall etching creme. I have been using it for years and ALWAYS get better results then when I use other brands of etching creme.
For this project, I got this great plant stand off of Facebook Marketplace. It was a steal at only $5. I’m so excited to etch a design to the top of it.
Supplies:
Plant Stand
Silhouette Cameo
Weeding tool
Oracal 813 stencil film
Mandala design by Lori Whitlock Design ID 268706 (from the Silhouette Design Store)
Instructions:
The first thing I did was measure the glass part of the plant stand. I used that measurement to size my design in Silhouette Studio. Once it was sized appropriately, I sent it to cut. Even though I used stencil vinyl, I used the vinyl, glossy setting in my software.
When the cut was complete I unloaded my machine, and weeded my design.
After cleaning the glass with an alcohol wipe, I used transfer tape to place my design where I wanted it. I did eyeball it so it ended up being slightly off center, but not enough to really notice a difference.
After making sure that the stencil vinyl was in place without any lifting on the edges, I generously applied my Etchall Etching Creme. I let it sit on my plant stand for about 15 minutes. You don’t need to move it around periodically like you do with other brands.
One of the things I love about this etching creme is that it is reusable, so once the time was up I scrapped it up and put it back in my bottle to use next time. Then I rinsed off the remaining etching creme. Do not rinse etching creme over a porcelain sink to avoid accidental etching! ALSO, if you have granite countertops in your kitchen, make sure you work on a craft mat, as Etchall will remove the glaze.
This was such a fun project. I hope I have inspired you to create some beautiful etched glass.
I would love to see what you create! Feel free to share your projects with me. You can post photos or ask questions on my Facebook page or group:
