Heat Transfer Warehouse Apparel Challenge

About a month ago, I got an email from Heat Transfer Warehouse asking if I wanted to participate in an apparel decoration challenge. I instantly replied with YES! Then a couple of weeks ago I received an email with all the information for the challenge.

The rules are simple

• The theme is Winter.
• Only use the materials provided by Heat Transfer Warehouse.
• Use at least 3 of the materials provided.
• Send in a pic and the link to your post/video by a specific date.
• Make your post/video live by Jan 11.
• Be creative and have fun.

I began trying to figure out what I wanted to do right away. I didn’t know what materials they were going to send yet, but I wanted to get some ideas in process. Once I received my package from Heat Transfer Warehouse, I could settle on a design and figure out which materials I wanted to use.

Materials

My package came a couple of weeks later. It included the following:

• 1 sweatshirt
• Siser Holographic
• Siser Glitter
• Easyweed Electric
• Easyweed Metal
• Easyweed Reflective
• Siser Sparkle
• Siser Stripflock Pro
• WALAkut Puff
• WALA Stones Rhinestones
• Rhinestone Flock

Process

Shortly after my package arrived, I settled on a design. I designed my file using Silhouette Studio, saved it as an svg, and uploaded it to Leonardo Design Studio so I could cut it on my Juliet.

Juliet cut my materials beautifully. Once everything was cut and ready to press, I had to determine which order to press my materials. I wasn’t sure if the puff would work correctly after pressing the rhinestones (and I only had one shot to do it) so I did a test with a different design, and it seemed to work fine. So, I went for it.

I pressed the Siser metal first, as that was the material with the hottest temperature. It is also a cold peel, so I let it cool while the heat press was cooling down. It also worked out that the Siser metal part of the design was the biggest (aside from the rhinestones). Next to press was the Siser glitter. That press went smoothly.

Now for the parts I was a little worried about. Next, I had to press the rhinestones. The rhinestones adhered beautifully. Now for the stressful part. Will my puff puff up correctly? I wasn’t fully convinced. I did use a pressing pillow to help try to get the correct pressure for the puff. Since the puff can only be pressed once, I had to do it last. The final press went smoothly enough. I didn’t necessarily get the results I wanted. The puff didn’t puff smoothly. But all in all, I love the design and I love the final product. I will definitely be wearing this sweatshirt this winter!

For future puff/rhinestone projects I don’t think I will put the rhinestones and puff so close together so that the rhinestone height doesn’t affect the way the puff reacts.

All in all, this was such a fun project and I’m so excited that I was able to participate in the challenge from Heat Transfer Warehouse!!
